Every website owner wants traffic but that’s not all. They want leads, engagement and sales too. In a recent survey website owners were asked if they wanted a great looking website or one that makes money? The answer was unanimous: MAKE MONEY. This survey spanned small, medium and even large businesses including doctors, speakers, technology providers, service companies and even some website design agencies. To prove my point, look at Craigslist.com, one of THE ugliest websites on the web and they just happen to be ranked #9 in the US on Alexa.com right now. As for money, it is estimated that they have sales over $120m with a cost of $20m. (Not to mention that Craigslist may have single handedly killed the newspaper classified ads revenue model.) Despite their unattractive website, Craigslist still makes tons of money and have undeniably become a huge force in the market.

Website designers must determine the impact of their work to drive leads, engagement and sales. Website owners want to measure success (or impact) so they can determine ROI and where to invest more money. You can create the most beautiful website known to man, but if it does not convert leads to sales for your customers, you are not going to get the referrals you need to grow your business.
